The only cautionary note that I would throw out here is that I find insider trades as per TMX website are probably different than Canadian Insider (same info as SEDI) more than 50% of the time. TMX apparently gets their data from brokerage firms which are supposed to know who and who is not an insider and SEDI relies on insiders to accurately declare their trades within the prescribed five days. That these numbers balance out so infrequently reflects very poorly on what must be a terribly managed system to supposedly keep everyone aware of insider trading activities.

There appear to be so many reasons why these numbers balance out so poorly. Bona fide insiders are not recognized by brokerage firms to be insiders, former insiders have not taken the proper steps to make the system aware that they are no longer insiders and my least favourite of them all, insiders simply make no effort to file their transactions within the five days they are expected to do so. For those who think the latter is probably small in number, just take a look at the weekly list of delinquent filers linked below. I am frustrated to the point where I am beginning to believe that regulators have implemented these regulations for reasons little more than to just give the impression that they are creating a level of insider transparency.

As for the WOF transaction, I would find it hard to believe that TMX will have been alerted to an insider transaction of this magnitude (and on both sides of the trade) if it weren't indeed real insiders. A past insider is in my opinion highly unlikely to have suddenly jump back in to buy 7 million shares so the buyer was probably a real insider. So while I agree with mercurysmith that this is an unnecessary distraction at this point, I believe that all shareholders deserve to know who this buyer was. But I won't be holding my breath.
