This morn's online G&M article...

This morn's online G&M article...

Irresponsible reporting?  Ministries don't talk to each other?  Selective "this is okay".

Not sure but here are some random thoughts......

Starting with excerpts from G&M's online article entitled, "Beef scare resurrects talk of national E. coli vaccine for cattle":

1. Carlton Gyles, a professor emeritus with the University of Guelph’s Department of Pathobiology and an internationally recognized expert on E. coli, agrees with that assessment. He says studies have shown that the vaccine reduces, but doesn’t eliminate, E. coli. And while it is safe for both cattle and humans, he said public-health dollars would be better spent educating Canadians about the importance of properly handling and cooking meat.

2. A spokesman for Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said the vaccine needs more study, given that its effect on humans is not fully known. “More scientific work would need to be done before deciding to administer a vaccine in all Canadian cattle,” Steve Outhouse said in an e-mail.

Bioniche's 2008 Press Release:

3. Econiche™, the world’s first vaccine designed to reduce the shedding by cattle of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, has received full licensing approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Econiche is now available for unrestricted use by Canadian cattle producers and their veterinarians.

So, Canada's food-safety watchdog, the same CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) at the heart of the XL Food recall crisis, has awarded full licensing approval to Econiche.

Question for Minister Leona Aglukkaq:

4. So, all the antibiotics, steroids, etc. injected into cattle and other animals, fowl, etc. raised for Canadians' consumption have no negative affects on humans including our immune systems?? I guess all I have been reading is a myth as I am sure Minister Leona Aglukkaq has ensured the proper scientific work was done and the effect on humans is totally known and deemed 100% safe.

After watching the Emergency Debate last night should I even question the quality of thinking/judgement from our elected MPs? I don't know...I guess I am just tired.  BTW...has anyone asked Jennifer Shea to comment on this yet? (I have read only a few posts today)

On a different note: Endo's communication surrounding Urocidin surpassed what I was expecting (excluding the forecast which I felt was ultra conservative). Nothing is for certain but I will sleep well.

Good night,  rg
