Hong Kong: Import of Canadian beef suspended

Via the Hong Kong government website: Import of Canadian beef suspended. The whole report:

The Centre for Food Safety today suspended the importation of Canadian raw beef and beef products manufactured on and after August 24 by XL Foods, due to e.coli contamination.

Canadian authorities say the company is recalling the affected meat, of which a small portion has been distributed to Hong Kong.

The centre has alerted the trade and instructed the importer and distributors to stop selling it.

Consumption of contaminated food is the common mode of e.coli transmission. Pregnant women, people with compromised immune systems, young children, and the elderly are most at risk of developing serious complications from it.

People should wash and thoroughly cook beef to a core temperature of 70 degrees Celsius or above for at least two minutes.
