It took us a couple of decades to get into this financial mess and it'll probably take us just as long to get out. That is, if we don't rock the boat too far to one side or the other.
WW II is widely credited with getting us out of the Great Depression. But what was it about WWII that did it? WW II was massive government spending. It put all those unemployed back to work building armaments.
Then after WW II we had the GI Bill and the building of the Interstate Highway System to educate and employ our returning servicemen. Here again, it was massive government spending. It took us till well into the 1960's to finally pay it all off.
