In last spring's conference call, I think i remember Brian Wesson mentioning something to the effect of what I wrote. He emphasized that IMC benefits when prices are high, and woulfe benefits when prices are low. Maybe the issue is the degree of a discount that IMC receives (the sliding scale that MS mentioned). However, being willing to pay a premium over the spot price can make a lot of sense. For example, by guaranteeing that sangdong mining corp never has to sell below actual costs, IMC could protect a strategic resource from falling into rival hands. I expect the importance of this will become more obvious in the coming years.
