Analogies nd supporing stats...

Analogies nd supporing stats...

Peasoupfog... Zep and your analogies are very enlightening when making a comparison of the effectiveness of Econiche to other mandated programs. Here are some quickly obtained supporting stats. I'm sure even better stats exist (but lack of time to look):

1)What do recent vaccine effectiveness studies show? (from the CDC)

Preliminary data for the 2010-2011 influenza season indicate that influenza vaccine effectiveness was about 60% for all age groups combined, and that almost all influenza viruses isolated from study participants were well-matched to the vaccine strains (Unpublished CDC data). A randomized study (by Monto et al [137 KB, 8 pages]) looking at the 2007-2008 influenza season found trivalent inactivated vaccine (flu shot) protected 7 out of 10 people from influenza illness. Studies show that LAIV works about as well as the flu shot. The main study that led to the licensure of LAIV was one conducted in children that showed that LAIV protected up to 9 out of 10 children vaccinated against the flu. A recent meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials of LAIV in children found that 2 doses of LAIV in vaccine-naïve children prevented infection with 77% of antigenically similar viruses and 72% of all viruses regardless of antigenic similarity.

2) Information Gap on Vaccine Effectiveness

The researchers screened 5,700 articles and studies, identifying just 31 that used highly specific diagnostic testing to confirm influenza.

Their review of these studies showed that the trivalent inactivated vaccine (TIV) -- which accounts for about 90% of flu vaccines given in the U.S. -- had 59% effectiveness in healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 65.

The vaccine's effectiveness in children, teens, and the elderly could not be determined because no trials involving these groups met the researchers' inclusion standards.

3) Seat belts are the single most effective traffic safety device for preventing death and injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of crash injuries by 50 percent. They save lives:

4) According to the obtained estimations, seat belts are 56% effective in preventing fatal injuries when used by passenger car front seat occupants. In the other passenger vehicle group that included vans and pickups, seat belts were found to be 61% effective in preventing fatalities. The seat belt effectiveness, in reducing incapacitating and non-incapacitating injuries, was respectively found to be 53% and 55% for passenger cars group, and 52% and 51% for other passenger vehicle group.
