RE: Mining and B.C. Politics Yes, politics will decide whether this mine goes ahead or not. Does that surprise you? If so, then you just don't understand life in general.
And, this particular bit of politics is going to be very time sensitive. With a BC election coming in the spring and considering the BC Liberal's poor showing in the current polls, I would expect them to try and convince us they care about the environment before big business by imitating more of what they think the NDP stands for - like protection of the environment at all cost. Don't be fooled by a wolf in sheep's clothing on either side of the house.
Past NDP governments in BC have not had a good record for economic growth and control of debt. They have not been seen by the right as "business friendly" but, (and this is a big but) maybe this NDP government in waiting will be different. They aren't telling us much yet about who they are and what they stand for. Why should they? The BC Liberals are self destructing.
Because of this, I can say anything I like about the future of politics in BC and of this mine. I can say the new NDP will be more economically responsible - that they will support the mining industry in BC because it is one of our most important industries. I can say that they will believe all of the reports and environmental analysis that are based on good engineering practices. I can say that they will not believe all of the retoric and anecdotal evidence being presented by the extremists and the NIMBY's.
Don't believe anything politicians say or do. As Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over 'til its over".
In the meantime, I'm still betting on the mine and picking up cheap shares.
