RE: RE: coal mines pollute air and water
RE: RE: coal mines pollute air and water mines considered the greatest polluter worldwide of watersources and according to US statistics operating and closed coal mines contribute over 10% of greenhouse gases w/ closed mines continuing to emit methane emissions. Check BC government site for the hundreds of contaminated sites associated with coal mines that need billions to clean up as companies are not held responsible. This is unnecessry degradation of the planet that costs billions in loss of revenue and public health. get real. Massive mines using massive machinery and transporting coal using massive diesel trucks produce additional pollutants that harm the environment and health--and why for corporate and stockholder profit, now that the jobs claim has been finally debunked.
BC has committed to reducing GHG and yet proposed permitting 9 new mines that would add tens of thousands of tonnes of methane and Co2 into the environment, not to mention the millions of tonnes when burned elsewhere. There has NEVER been a more harmful product to the environment--even wars can be cleaned up.
