RE: Math 101... Cartguy, market cap has NOTHING to do with the value of the company... however, the value the company puts on their assets often times has nothing to do with the company's value either...
Sometimes a company will give itself a ridiculous value based on "goodwill", which almost always is valueless when in dissolution...
You have to forgive me, I can't recall if there is a way to have cease traded stocks "deemed sold" for tax purposes... I have been meaning to phone Revenue Canada about this as I have been holding a stock on my books, in the faint hope that it will recover... but after all this time, I'm now certain that it is a total loss. The reason that I bring it up is to bring this to the attention of those of you who have never been in this situation before... had I have known about it 10 years ago, I wouldn't be holding the "faint hope" I mentioned above...
