Yeah, I agree.  But I think you miss the finer picture.  When they issue a report after the stock had its price drop.  That is when the analyst are trying to drive the price lower..  To buy the stocks at low price.  Does not mean that they have sold the stocks already at a higher price.  Might mean they have already shorted the stock the day of release and looking to get the price lower to cover their position.  When analyst do come out with a price target below share price.  That to me says they are looking to covering their short position and will drive the price up from doing so.
