Nahanni Range Road
Nahanni Range Road The road is maintained by Yukon Gvt under an agreement with NTC for the upper portions. There are other users using the lower portions, so presumably NTC would only be concerned with the upper reaches where they alone are being serviced. I'm not aware of the amount, if any, that NTC contributes to the upkeep and any upgrades. About 3 years ago they did a significant resurfacing of the road which was partly supported by the Federal Government's infrastructure/stimulous funding. Note also the fact that this road is being considered for extension to the recently approved resource reserves on the western side of Naats'ihch'oh National Park extension (see below). These are areas excluded from the park to allow resource definition/exploration and future development, but also to allow alternate access to the western portion of the park and meet up with the Canol road to even allow access to Mactung and other resource development along that road. It would seem logical that NTC should not be on the hook for the road repairs that are required following last summer's washouts, when other uses/users are benefiting from this road access. But I have no further info or insight on what if/any costs NTC might have to bear.
