RE: RE: RE: RE: Alaska Oil Play

RE: RE: RE: RE: Alaska Oil Play

No problem glacierman.

There are two water related problems with fracking:

  1. Using up all the drinking water in areas with water shortages.  This is a problem in areas like Texas and North Dakota which are short on drinking water.   The amount of water that these fracs use is truly stupendous.
  2. Pollution of drinking water either primarily by
    1. the water comes with the oil production or
    2. because the didn't do the well completion correctly and they allowed gas and oil to get into the ground water.  This is the the case when you see people lighting their tap water on fire.

In Alaska, if they are using brakkish water, problem #1 is not a concern.  I also do not think it is problem in the CMV because there is lots of water.

However, problem number 2 is still a problem for the CMV and Alaska.  Oil companies have provide safeguards to prevent pollution of drinking water.  I believe the technology is there to prevent water polllution, but best practices are not always followed and there will be accidents even for the most prudent operator.  For all the fuss in the eastern USA, thousands of wells are multi-staged fractured in B.C., Alberta and Texas with few issues.  So it can be done safely.
