Why would an American trader (company?) be so interested in this rock pit?

I mean, to most Americans we're just a bunch of eskimos with a tar pit in Alberta.

Still, if there was an American interest, then maybe there might be others.

In which case, you would think competitive pressures would be driving the SP up.
