The NIRB rejected Areva's first environmental impact statement draft because it failed to answer reasonable questions like the following: “Whether the project would unduly prejudice the ecosystemic integrity of the Nunavut Settlement Area.”

Ecosystemic integrity. Does this sound like a mining-friendly jurisdiction?

What's the NIRB really there for? To extract participation fees for the multiple groups (remarkable how many organizations such a small population can produce) to participate in the evironmental review process. The longer the process takes the more participation fees are budgeted towards these groups. It's a living.
