The United States supported Kazakhstan's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) by the end of 2012, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis said Friday.

"Kazakhstan has set a goal to join the WTO by the end of this year. Nevertheless, there is still much work to do and the United States is ready to help and allocate the necessary resources and personnel to Kazakhstan to advance this goal by the end of 2012," Marantis told a press conference.

"It would actually be a signal to investors around the world that the country is open for business, because Kazakhstan has adopted the trade policy that facilitates doing business in the country," he said.

"It will provide more opportunities for Kazakh manufacturers and exports to access other countries' markets once Kazakhstan joins the WTO," Marantis said.

In January, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev set the end of the year as the target date for joining the WTO.

Kazakhstan's economy grew 7.5 percent in 2011 and its per capita gross domestic product stood at 11,000 U.S. dollars.
