There was a recent meeting on the infrastructure/power issue with all the major players in attendance. One of the key concerns for this area is that there is very little infrastructure (power, roads, etc.) to many of the key exploration areas throughout the Yukon. Since the second Klondike Gold rush began several years ago, it was hoped that some of the infrastructure issues (especially power) would be addressed by a cooperative of government and mining entities.

Well, the upshot of this recent meeting is that power won’t be coming anytime soon to these key exploration areas in the Yukon. In fact in may be seven years before power is brought in to service these areas. This is devastating news for exploration companies in the Yukon who are hoping to make a discovery large enough for a major to come and take them out. What this means is that any discoveries in the Yukon will be discounted because a major now understands that if they want to bring power in, it will be on their own dime.
