As you know, canadian media is centered around the east and they are mostly liberal / NDP supporters.  Cnooc made the nexen bid on or around July 23 and there wasn't any public backlash until the media start writing up inneudos about china later on which generated public uproar around late September.  Same reason why we  find chaffer the mor-on showing up here on Sept 22.
