We don't actually know if it is short sellers or not. Could be tax loss selling or could be portfolio repositioning selling for a few of the many reasons that exist to sell.
In technical analysis high volume associated with a down price is bearish. The one exception to that is capitulation selling where volume will be extremely high due to longs finally thowing in the towel and selling. The volume is not extremely high today, so I doubt we are seeing capitulation selling. Anyway, that is longs selling, not due to short selling.
