Short selling

Short selling

I have never done short selling before. Just wanted to confirm  the following:

The special dividend pay date for this stock is 19 December, would it be a safe/good bet to short the stock on 18 and make a decent profit (about $5 per stock) by getting out of it on the 19?

Any suggestions on the stuff I should look for?

Thanks

Dtoor
