I think people can debate whether or not gold should get treated as one asset class or another, the main point is that gold, gold etf's and gold stocks are all generally trending downwards at the moment. This is likely due to fact that gold is a haven in times of risk, and the the risks that plagued the market in the recent past are all generally either being improved, eliminated or simply accepted by the bulk of the investing community. If you are old enough to remember the early 1980's you will remember how it was then... the world was coming to an end, doomsday bunkers, poorly handled inflation was killing things, gold was at all time highs and heading higher... ten years later the world did not end and sanity returned to the markets. History has a habit of repeating itself.
