RE: RE: RE: German distributor

RE: RE: RE: German distributor

Here's some useful DD that I have summarized on MELA for those wanting to compare:

  • Melafind is a signed user agreement - the doctor never owns the device.
  • Manufacturing cost is est. to be ~$35,000 per unit
  • A Dermatologist pays a $7500 placement fee which Mela amortizes the revenue over several quarters. This includes device placement, training and 25 memory cards.
  • where the firm will really make their revenue is if the device receives heavy daily use
  • Mela Science would like a scan per hour however early adoptors have been approx 6 scans per day
  • The device stores patient info -something the Aura does not - so for privacy reasons it is stored on a micro SD card that the firm calls the "Electronic MelaRecord" (sure sounds better then SD card)
  • the Electronic MelaRecord is require by a patient and Mela charges $50.00 - i believe 1-3 moles/scans per card. I am unsure of the specifics for card use - eg multiple patient uses?
  • MelaRecords are sold in boxes of 50 cards.
  • In Germany Mela is revenue sharing with some early Derm adaptors
  • In Germany Mela signed a 2 yr agreement with Quintiles Commercial Germany GmbH for commercialization support for Melafind. I believe they have hired 2 full time staff with a goal of 75 placements by March'13.
  • In Germany Melafind is made by Askion
  • In the USA Mela has hired and maintains their own in-house sales and commercial support staff ($$$$$!!!!)

Just my personal points - maybe you can add to them or correct me if I missed something.

Good luck.
