Communards of Cañaris ask the Regional Government support Cañariaco mining project

Texts: Walter Serquén web@grupoepensa.pe
January 9, 2013 | Lambayeque -

Eleven leaders from various villages in the district of Canaris altoandino, located in the province of Ferreñafe, in Lambayeque, this morning attended the Regional Government to request the authorities to support the mining project Cañariaco.

Among the leaders are Segundo Rinza Rodríguez and Gerónimo Huamán Lucero, who said they have the support of 3.565 villagers of the comunal areas: high, low and medium of the said district.

"We represent 70% of the population, that is most of us are in favor of this project because it will bring development and jobs for our communities," said Rodriguez Rinza.

It noted that the pronouncement of these villagers comes after that on the eve, the leaders of the Peasant Community San Juan de Canaris warned that will resume January 20 protests against the mining project Cañariaco, that seeks to run the Candente Copper Company.
