VoIP market to see steady growth

Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 06:20:04 pm
Fixed VoIP should see a steady growth this year.

Those who have been paying attention to voice communications trends over the past couple of years should not be surprised by the numbers from the recent TechNavio report regarding fixed VoIP services in the United States. The company said that between 2012 and 2016, the market will grow at a rate of about 10.15 percent per year.

"One of the key factors contributing to this market growth is the availability of next-generation telecom infrastructure," the company said. "The fixed VoIP services market in the U.S. has also been witnessing subscribers switching from fixed telephones to fixed VoIP services. However, the security concerns could pose a challenge to the growth of this market."

The report looked at what the market size will be in 2016, which trends are adding to the growth, what the weaknesses and strengths of the industry are and if there are any other large roadblocks in the way of widespread adoption.

Speaking to the point of security, the SANS Institute said for those considering VoIP or unified communications, implementing security from the start is a must. Especially in the face of trends like bring your own device, companies need to know how to protect their investment as well as possible.
