Well, theRE: RE: social unrest continues and inten Well, the picture accompaniying the news is not about the protest. If you do not understand spanish, the news says that the about 2,000 'ronderos' from cajamarca (from provinces close to Cañaris, Lambayeque ) will march with the people of Cañaris on Sunday 20th against the development of Cañariaco. The protests and marchs will begin that day according to the news. So, don´t be mistaken, the picture has nothing to do with the protests, they haven´t started yet. Cañariaco is an excellent project but has one very big problem: apparently the majority of the people is against it. This is defintely a political issue and there are many stakeholders involved: the community (some people are in favor of the mine), the central and regional govermnments (also in favor of DNT), etc. We wil have to wait and see how the government and the company handle this issue. This is not the first time that these issues occur in Peru and there are examples of conflicts thatt were solved after negotiations among oll the parties involved: Anglo American's Quellaveco, Xstrata's Antapacay, etc.Wait and see.
