MEM: Community Cañaris itself represented in development table
Lima, Jan. 26 (ANDINA). The rural community of San Juan de Canaris (Lambayeque) does have representatives in the Intersectoral Bureau for Development District Canaris, said Vice Minister of Mines, Guillermo Shinno.
"A part of the community of San Juan de Canaris if is participating in the development table, Elijah Palomino is a member of community and like he others members too involved in the development table ," said Shinno.
Shinno said that the leader the community (Christopher Barrios) knows, rural community of San Juan de Canaris participates in the dialogue.
Shinno added that in table on the development is pending the formation of a small working group that will see the mining issue in Cañaris, district where the Candente Copper company performs mineral exploration activities in order to determine whether there is a viable reservoir exploitation . In this work opposes a section of villagers in the area.
Speaking to a local radio station, the official said that the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has four officials in the district of Canaris and the development and operating table with the participation of representatives of the regional government of Lambayeque, the municipality district and civil associations.
"We are ready for dialogue, a conversation (...) this is open space," he reiterated Shinno, who noted that a few days ago, a first workshop for the preparation of District Development Plan of Cañaris, involving of regional and local authorities, community leaders, technicians and specialists from various sectors.
The initiative was undertaken with the aim of collecting and sustainable development initiatives for productive Cañaris district, which is considered among the ten poorest in the country.
Shinno said the protests against mining projects are led by elements who oppose any investment and are "fooling people into believing that an exploration project will bring harm to the environment."
"They are intransigent positions that we have seen elsewhere. There are other elements that come from Cajamarca to incite people," he added to indicate that time has already told the leaders that the mining company's operations comply with the requirements of environmental care.
Finally, Shinno deplored the attitude of some leaders in media falsely told police intervention in Canaris had caused the loss of human life, which was denied by the National Police and the high commissioner of the National Dialogue and Sustainability, Vladimiro Huaroc.
