You're reading a conflict in Gary's argument which doesn't exist and its consistent with the message he left with the world's graphite industry leaders in London last month.
Either you adapt to keep up with manufacturing trends and manufacturers' needs or you perish.
FMS holds an extraordinary positiion WRT graphite and graphene. The markets know it and he's relayed what his customers are telling him - the battery manufacturers. And China knows it, potentially the biggest threat to price stability among producers.
My read of his argument is that GE is very, very comfortable with the position he's carved out for FMS and Grafoid and he intends to lead by example.
