The presidentof the rural communityofSanJuanCañaris(Lambayeque),ChristopherBarrios, wentto the headquartersof the SecondCriminalProvincial ProsecutorJaénto answer forthe complaintshanging over himfor the alleged crimesofviolation of freedom,blockingpublic roadsandproperty damage, as partofthe protestsagainstmining projectCañariaco.

Barriosgavehis first statementsaccompanied byother leaders ofCanaris,whowere also includedin the complaints.

"As expectedallegationsagainst me andmy brothers andthey headed,just tell themthat I did notgiveup, thatnothing should benothing to fearbecause we are fightingfor a just cause," saidthe leadertoleavethe seattax, which alsolearned thatthree complaintsabout itweighmoreon charges ofcoercion andkidnapping.

The leadersaidelsewhere thatthe dialogue tableinstalledso far tosolve thesocial and environmentalproblemshave not respectedthe dialogueof Andean peasants,who werelabeled as terroristsand radicals.

Chiclayo: Dirigente de Cañaris enfrenta 4 denuncias por protestas mineras

El presidente de la comunidad campesina San Juan de Cañaris (Lambayeque), Cristóbal Barrios, acudió hasta la sede de la Segunda Fiscalía Provincial Penal de Jaén para responder por la denuncia que pesa sobre él por los presuntos delitos de violación de la libertad, bloqueo de la vía pública y daños a la propiedad, en el marco de las protestas realizadas en contra del proyecto minero Cañariaco.

Barrios brindó sus primeras declaraciones acompañado de otros dirigentes de Cañaris, quienes también fueron incluidos en las denuncias.

“Como era de esperarse las denuncias en mi contra y mis hermanos ya tomaron rumbo, solo les digo que yo no me daré por vencido, el que nada debe nada teme porque luchamos por una causa justa”, expresó el dirigente al salir de la sede fiscal, donde además se conoció que sobre él pesan tres denuncias más por los delitos de coacción y secuestro.

El dirigente expresó en otro momento que las mesas de diálogo instaladas hasta el momento para solucionar el problema socioambiental no han respetado el diálogo de los campesinos andinos, a quienes se les tildó de terroristas y radicales.

“Nosotros como comuneros no huimos al diálogo, por eso asistimos a la mesa de diálogo en Ferreñafe para plantear nuestro pedido; sin embargo esto no sirvió por que las autoridades no escuchan al pueblo”, agregó.

Mientras tanto en el distrito de Cañaris se cumplen 16 días de paro, sin solución por ahora.
