Pioneer Green Energy announces two wind power projects in Alabama
Feb 7, 2013
Texas-based Pioneer Green Energy has announced plans to build two wind energy projects in northeast Alabama. The two projects will be the first wind energy facilities in the state, according to Pioneer.
The larger of the two projects, the Noccalula Wind Energy Center, would be built in Etowah County. The wind farm would have up to 40 turbines and a total generating capacity of 80 MW. The project is estimated to be competed in the second or third quarter of 2014.
The second project, the Shinbone Wind Energy Center, would be located in Cherokee County and would start operations in the first or second quarter of 2014. It would consist of eight wind turbines, which would provided a capacity of 18.4 MW of electricity. That amount is enough to power more than half the homes in Cherokee County, according to Pioneer.
