Senegal: Suspected Al-Qaeda member arrested Pana 14/02/2013
Thirty-four-year-old Mauritanian, Mouhamed Ahmed Aidara, a suspected member of the Al-Qaeda terror group, has been arrested by Senegalese soldiers in the Southern part of the country, official sources told PANA here.
Aidara was arrested in the southern town of Pakour near the border with Guinea Bissau, according to the sources.
He is allegedly involved in recruiting young people for posting to Northern Mali to fight on the side of the Islamist groups against the France-led armed forces.
Senegalese army Captain, Abdoul Mbengue, of the detachment in Kolda, confirmed the arrest, saying that the terror suspect had spent a couple of weeks in Pakour prior to his arrest.
Captain Mbengue said an investigation is underway to determine whether the allegation against Aidara is true.
