The current president of the San Juan de Canaris (Lambayeque), Christopher Barrios, who drives the anti-mining protests in the town, may not be reelected for the third time in office, after the committee in charge of the election of the new board communal annul the list headed.
This was said Electoral Committee Chairman, Lucho Fernández Bernilla Tantarico, who said that the decision was made because it violates the Law on Rural Communities, attempting to occupy the leadership for three consecutive periods.
He explained that the entries of the tables are made from February 10 to March 2, achieving record three lists led by Humberto Lucero Huaman, Christopher Barrios Barrios Florentino Carrillo and Huaman.
He added, which is then granted a period of three days for the submission of strikeouts and no objection, however, asserts, an analysis was made of the Law on Rural Communities and verified that Barrios was trying to infringe Article 20 where specifies that community board members are elected for a maximum period of two years and may be reappointed for a period equal.
Bernilla Fernandez said that this situation led to the members of the Election Committee, to issue a resolution that excludes Barrio. He added that only lists headed by Humberto Barrios Florentino Lucero and participate in the contest to be held this March 24.
