RE: Chief sets out demands for Rae to negotiate I think Rae would be a good representative for the FN negotiations...but I see an ethical dilemma. He is a sitting MP. If he resigned his seat I see no problem for him to accept this paid position...if he does not I see a large one.
To give an example that would be akin to having PM Harper representing and negotiating reparations for the Japanese and Italians who were interned during WW II. Or MP Flarity negotining for CIBC to lobby for more bank deregulation...the conflict of interest is obvious.
Rae is part of the Canadian Government, how can he represent the constituents of his Toronto riding and that of FN at the same time?
There are dozens of other negotiators with more experience and skilled than Rae. The former Governor General Michaëlle Jean, come to mind, she has a keen sense of social justice. I could also name a slew of slick lawyers who would be more effective in making sure this is done with all parties benefiting...even the lawyers...oh thats right they get paid anyway...
