Those who reference "share price" when talking about relative values of companies, really do need to know what "market cap" means. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT MARKET CAP MEANS, YOU SHOULD NOT BE INVESTING IN THE STOCK MARKET. It's that simple. It absolutely blows my mind that people would put their money in the market while not knowing the most basic principles.
For those needing the education, market capitalization is the share price x the number of shares outstanding.
I shudder to think that people could even think they can invest their own money without knowing that. Sometimes I think there should be a skill-testing questionnaire for anyone opening a self-directed trading account.
