Technicals aren't much better, but at least if you get a 'technical sell' and you follow it, you get out. Trying to reconcile short-term market moves to fundamentals will make you question your sanity. I guess basically it comes back to the fact that markets are driven by participant psychology, and frequently by manipulative actions of the larger players, who push the market opposite the expected trend when they can (to confuse fundamental investors and encourage the ultimately counterproductive trending psychology on the part of the herd).
And also, markets don't follow news, news is generated to justify market moves.
