THUNDER BAY – Mining - With $75,000 in FedNor funding, the City of Thunder Bay is undertaking a mining readiness strategy in partnership with Fort William First Nation and the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Corporation.
Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor announced that the Harper Government is investing to help the City of Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation capitalize on mining development opportunities in the region, including the Ring of Fire.
Clement has been tasked with the responsibility for the Ring of Fire development. The Minister has taken the lead role for the Conservative Government for Northwestern Ontario.
FedNor Funding Supports Mining
“Our Government is focused on helping communities grow, create jobs and strengthen the regional economy,” said Clement. “Today’s announcement will help the City of Thunder Bay identify, plan for and develop mining-related businesses opportunities to diversify the regional economy and maximize employment creation for area residents.”
“Thanks to support from FedNor, the study will position the City of Thunder Bay and its partners to fully benefit from increased mining exploration and production in the region,” commented Mayor Keith Hobbs. “It will also provide us with a roadmap to assist the city in expanding its role as a regional mineral exploration and mining service centre.”
“Our Government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of their streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security,” concluded Clement.
The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
