Spdr S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Etf V.XOP.W

Primary Symbol: XOP

The investment seeks to provide investment results that, before fees and expenses, correspond generally to the total return performance of an index derived from the oil and gas exploration and production segment of a U. In seeking to track the performance of the S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Select Industry Index, the fund employs a sampling strategy. It generally invests substantially all, but at least 80%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The index represents the oil and gas exploration and production segment of the S&P Total Market Index (S&P TMI).

That's just it  - its only a story until proven otherwise. I'm not negative on XOP at all, just trying to keep things real that it is a speculative investment. Every small co. who farms out to any ligitimate explorer has a story, but even XOM has drilled many dry wells before on stories they believed in, and will drill many more. That's the exploration game. The prior owners of LB13 couldn't find a taker for it until this deal eventually landed on them. My take is that many viewed it as too high risk, but deepwater W. Africa is heating up and acreage is going fast. Giants like XOM and Chevron can more easily tolerate that risk and are now grabbing these deals in order to not get caught out on the potential huge reward. I hope this thing is easily 4B bbls, but I wouldn't expect anyone to start running XOP's share price to anywhere near that kind of valuation just yet.
