The fact that so many shares are available for loa shorters can be attributed to many investors who buy on margin accounts. If genuine long term investors are in BB for the long haul, they could mitigate this problem by increasing their cash accounts for their BB shares. Under IIROC regulations, shares held in cash account are not lendable by brokers or banks for purposes of shorting. Limit the supply and you will see the curtailing of these shorting activities. Thus if there are now 150 million shares short, all you need is 150000 investors buying 1000 shares each, paid in cash, and all shorties will run like rats scurrying for cover.
