RE: Sugar==Diesel

RE: Sugar==Diesel

It'll be a long time before this kind of thing can become viable in terms of production. They have to produce massive amounts of bacteria and consume massive amounts of sugar to produce even a small amount of alkanes, I would wager the cost at the moment is beyond astronomical for even a small amount (based on my limited knowledge of the procedures involved, something along the lines of $150k per litre).

As they mentioned in the piece, it will be a while before it becomes (if it becomes) financially viable. I wouldn't do any trading speculating on how sugar demand will change because of this any time soon.
