POET’s transistors are much faster than any silicon CMOS transistors and they are the only transistors that have been developed outside of silicon that have been produced with both p and n channel complimentary logic. That is worth repeating and is the point that Lee Shepherd makes over and over again. POET transistors have much higher performance over silicon and since Geoff’s design produces both p and n channels, complimentary logic is available from these devices right now. In other words even if we forget about the advantages of photonic integration this technology offers a replacement for silicon CMOS to allow continued performance achievements to reset Moore’s Law.
Very obviously Opel will want to show off all future capabilities of not only photonic integration but photonic processing and is why they are building proof points (focused test circuits of existing devices) for industry to test. We have seen no disclosure from the company on whether they have in fact delivered any of these test chips but as Lee Shepherd says he expects them to respond very positively once they have actually seen for themselves what the EXISTING capability of POET is:
