I think the sector just needs to hold on a little longer - maybe 10 or 12 years, and things will turn around.  That or maybe a good washout selloff that pushes the price under 0, and ideally back in time (think of a spiral on the chart), so that shareholders are actually liable for costs accrued due to owning a stock with a price below 0.  

I would think if we can just get a good washout event like that then maybe the strong hands will come in and the sector will recover.  In any case, I'm sure that in a decade or so VTR should be trading well back in the mid .40s, unless they go broke first, in which case they should find support at 0, irrespective of my above comment about needing a sub-zero price to finally wash out the weak hands....

 

I would think that a sub-zero price of gold would also help shake loose some of the physical metal held by western retail owners, which would have to be beneficial in meeting Eastern retail and central bank demand.
