TO Star says RIM's Q10 finds a niche for professionals

The Toronto Star reports in its Thursday edition that Research in Motion, which reports earnings on June 28, said at its developers conference in Florida that its physical keyboard/touchscreen Q10, the first QWERTY BlackBerry running on the new BB10 operating system, will launch in June in the United States. The Star's Michael Lewis writes that U.S. network carriers T-Mobile and Verizon will launch the Q10 some time in June, with Sprint following late in the summer. The Q10 is already available in several markets around the world including the United Kingdom and Canada after launch of the touchscreen Z10 at the beginning of the year. Reports on Q10 sales have been mixed. RIM will not release official figures before it posts its earnings report. RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue says while competition remains fierce the Q10 "seems to be settling into a niche for professionals. BB10 channel fill and expected enterprise uptake give RIM time to rebuild its business, and develop new enterprise and consumer services to offset the shift away from its mandatory services model." BMO Financial Group has endorsed BlackBerry 10 "as their platform of choice." Ditto for the Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
