They would have known from the mud returns as they came in over the shakers and collected cutting samples. The mudloggers would have seen the flourescence on the cuttings indicating oil shows. An oil based mud system is usually made from of diesel plus barite, etc. This is completely different from 38 API crude. They are running a tight hole. HRT is in the hunt now. Take tthe PR as you wish but I consider this positive news. We have a working oil resource rock and system. Nobody hits 100% on wildcat wells.
