RE: Source Rock Question

RE: Source Rock Question

An empty reservoir does not automatically mean that there is no oil. The oil migrates over a very long timeframe which makes it obvious that a lot depends on the timing of all involved factors. Basically you have a filled reservoir above a source rock that still contains HCs.

Usually the HCs find their way sooner or later its just a question of how much migrates at which time and to which possible reservoir. If the oil migrates through a potential reservoir rock which lacks a trap or a seal then you get residual oil (as seen in HRT-11). The seal can also breach at a later point due to tectonic events.

No source rock however would be an absolute killer (e.g. Tapir South).
