Pacific Northwest LNG
Progress Energy Canada Ltd.
May 21, 2013 - Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd. has awarded Front-End Engineering and Design ("FEED") contracts for its proposed liquefied natural gas ("LNG") facility in British Columbia to three international engineering contractors - Bechtel, KBR/JGC joint venture, and Technip/Samsung Engineering/China Huanqiu joint venture.
About This Project
The Pacific Northwest LNG Project is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility, on Lelu Island within the District of Port Edward on land administered by the Port of Prince Rupert. Natural gas would be supplied by Progress Energy Canada Ltd. in northeastern BC.
The initial phase of the facility will have a capacity to produce 12 million tonnes per annum. At full build out the facility would receive approximately 3 Billion Cubic Feet per Day (Bcfd) of pipeline grade natural gas and produce up to 18 million tonnes annum of LNG.
The proposed facility is an $9-11 billion investment that will deliver significant economic and social benefits to local communities and First Nations in British Columbia. Construction would result in up to 3,500 jobs. Once operational, the LNG facility would create 200 to 300 direct jobs.
TransCanada has been selected by Petronas to design, build, own and operate the proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project — an approximately 750-kilometre pipeline to deliver natural gas from the Fort St. John area of British Columbia to the proposed Pacific Northwest LNG export facility
