Assuming you can "lend" yourself the shares, at no cost, to short them in a completely different transaction, and assuming that when you buy your 1000 shares @ $10, you don't want to assume the risk that the shares will ever reach $15 or drop to $5, I have a much better idea;

Short the 1000 shares @ $10 when you buy them. You can't lose. Your wife will be deliriously happy.
