RE: Mercury? Oh yes Mercury and how. I have been anticipating this for months and have talked to several NAN leaders about this. The ROF is a swamp and standing water and decomposing vegetation especially leaves, needles and bark are serious culprits in producing Mercury Contamination.. The CLF plan for an open pit is dead, the Clf plan for an ore haul road is dead. Several players in the ROF have known about this but have been paying out rope so CLF's could hang themselves...no EA for CLF's with their current plans Heheheeeee. What willy they do...
I have been having a similar fight with the MNR and their plans to remove a dam on the Black Sturgeon River. The Dam was created for log drives and the sediment in the impoundment above the dam is contaminated with mercury. The dam needs some serious work and the Toronto Government does not want to spend the money to fix the issues. At the public meeting I brought this up and the Toronto Biologist who tried to ignore the question and he finally ended with the Black Sturgeon River follows a fault and an Earth Quake could cause a catastrophic failure, that's why it needs to be removed. An earth quake big enough to cause the dam to fail on the Canadian Shield? My friends if this should occur pray to whatever god or gods you believe in because the earth is cracking in two.
He then said the study testing the sediment was not completed yet and that when it was I would get a copy. The study has been completed and I have been told by the Toronto Biologist that it will not be released to the public but don't worry the sediment is not contaminated... I did ask how the study was conducted and how deep the core samples were but was told by the head biologist that he did not have that information...So an 80 year accumulation of needles and bark some how went under a miraculous transformation when no one was looking and became benign...yah ok I believe you.
Three studies had been completed earlier in two lakes in they system above the Dam showing Mercury contamination in the sediment and one below the dam in Black Bay showing Mercury contamination. but the impoundment above the dam is mercury free? yah ok I believe you...
Any mine in the ROF will be underground and the transportation system for ore will be rail. I wonder what company has been pusing for rail?
