RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: taking another look In the old days of the mid 20th century, people invested in rock solid corporations that paid a few percent dividends and had stocks that appreciated a little in value each year and the dollar was relatively stable and there was a nice low-risk path to retirement.
These days mayhem rules the markets. I'd rather invest in something that earns a few percent real return each year but that is not the way the financial world works any more. The reality is stuff that goes up 200% one year and down 67% another year. I think the only way to invest these days is to embrace mayhem. I think the only good strategy is to try to be in more heavy in the big up cycles and be in more lightly in the big down cycles.
