Ecuador's Lawmakers to Vote on Mining Reforms Next Ecuadorean lawmakers plan to vote next week on reforms to the mining law, aiming to pave the way for the start of large-scale mining in the Andean country.
"Likely between Monday and Tuesday, we [National Assembly] will have the final vote," said Oswaldo Larriva, president of the economic committee of Ecuador's National Assembly.
According to Mr. Larriva, lawmakers have introduced a few minor changes requested by some sectors, but the substance of the reforms that were sent to the National Assembly by President Rafael Correa "has been preserved unchanged."
Mr. Correa's ruling party accounts for 100 of the 137 seats in the National Assembly-- giving the bill a strong likelihood of passing.
