OriginalFred, you know that I almost always agree with you...  But FWIW, Ecuador was in much more of a mess before Correa with crony capitalism/corruption.  Am not saying that socialism is a better system.  Just saying that Correa is a better leader than what Ecuador has had before...  If you check the facts, believe you will determine that Ecuador has had better GDP growth rate under Correa than most all his predecessors and better growth rate than most SA countries (albeit from smaller base, making improvement easier to achieve).

 

As stated, socialism is not a better system, but I sincerely have my doubts whether Correa is a "true socialist" to begin with...  We shall see.  He is a trained economist in the USA, so surely he knows the track record for socialist versus capitalist systems.  His socialist talk may be worse than his bite.
