US Solar PV Market Demand by State, Q3’12-Q2’13 (Source: NPD Solarbuzz North America PV Markets Quarterly)
According to new market-based projections done by NPD Solarbuzz, the U.S. solar PV market is projected to grow to 4.3 GW, a 20% increase when compared to 2012. The report also projects that by 2014, the U.S. could reach 5 GW of solar PV.
Solar is one of the fastest-growing energy trends in the U.S., and this year, the demand for solar PV in the U.S. market is up to 12%. This is more than double the demand for solar PV that we saw in 2010, about 5% and with a PV capacity of 2.5 GW.
Solar PV is also no longer solely dominated by the coastal states of the U.S.; the Midwest and some Southern states seem to be getting the message. Much of this growth is from utility-based solar energy projects as states ramp up their solar utility standards, like Minnesota.
Solar energy also earned another victory on the international level as Coal India, the World's largest coal company, has chosen to incorporate solar PV to cut their utility costs. It might just be me, but it sounds like people are finally understanding the bright future solar has to offer.
