BB/$100 The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition Research in Motion's near-term fortunes may finally be looking up, according to RBC analyst Mark Sue. The Post's Matthew Braga, writing in Trading Desk, says Mr. Sue has raised his firm's estimates on BlackBerry 10 shipments while expressing optimism that "near-term profitability looks attainable." However, Mr. Sue is still waiting for "stabilization of BlackBerry's subscriber base and uptake of new enterprise and consumer services to offset the shift away from its mandatory services model." In a note Tuesday, Mr. Sue cited faster-than-expected channel fill of BlackBerry's Z10 and Q10 smart phones as factors in raising the firm's BlackBerry 10 forecast to 3.5 million units for the first quarter of fiscal year 2014, up from 2.75 million. RBC is also forecasting 14 million BlackBerry 10 shipments by the end of calendar year 2013, up from 11 million previously. The earlier-than-expected launch of the company's first entry-level BlackBerry 10 smart phone with a physical keyboard, the BlackBerry Q5, was one factor. The Q5, which was originally anticipated for release this fall, is now expected during August or September. RBC expects RIM to be profitable in 2014.
